We set aside the best barrels of our Cabernet to produce Special Selection – the only wine in the world honored twice as Wine Spectator magazine’s “Wine of the Year.” Pushing the limits of richness and concentration, this Cabernet is enjoyable upon release or improves with aging a decade or more. Fine, luxurious tannins give structure to intense flavors of supple cacao bean, chocolate and dark fruits.
Caymus has a signature style that is dark in color, with rich fruit and ripe, velvety tannins – as approachable in youth as in maturity. We farm Cabernet grapes in eight of Napa’s 16 sub-appellations, with diversification enabling us to make the best possible wine in a given year. Our Cabernet offers layered, lush aromas and flavors, including cocoa, cassis and ripe dark berries.
Although Caymus is best known for Cabernet Sauvignon, we also produce a small amount of Zinfandel, which was a favorite of Caymus founder Charlie Wagner. It is a varietal that can produce amazing wines here in Napa Valley and our full-bodied version is perfect for rich foods and hearty cheeses, but also enjoyed with pizza and BBQ. Sold only from the winery and to a few select export markets.
Suisun (su-soon) Valley, which lies to the Southeast of Caymus, is only a 40-minute drive and reminds us of Napa Valley 40 years ago. With its warm days and cool nights, the region is known for delicious stone fruits and walnuts – increasingly, it is also gaining recognition for its wine. Durif is synonymous with Petite Sirah, the widely grown grape in the region – we added “Grand” to the name of our Suisun-grown Durif because it has a grand style. With lush textural tannins, this wine is rich, supple and totally enjoyable.
It was only natural that we would make a Pinot Noir in addition to Chardonnay. The Santa Lucia Highlands is well-known as the perfect home for both these varietals. Grapes ripen slowly, enabling us to make wine of heightened complexity, with layers of aromas and flavors. We named Mer Soleil after the two forces of nature – the sea and sun – that shape this singular character, and they are every bit as powerful in creating our Pinot as our Chardonnay.
This Malbec is made from grapes grown in the Andes Mountains, shipped chilled to Napa Valley and produced with the same techniques as our Caymus Cabernet. Falling outside standard labeling rules, it does not include a vintage date but is known by the voyage from which it traveled (Voyage 6 is the 2015 vintage). Offering scents of ripe plums and cherries, this wine is powerful and supple, with flavors of French oak and soft tannins.
Blending wines was almost unthinkable when Conundrum White was born more than 25 years ago. Since then, this wine has attracted a loyal following and remains as inventive as ever. While the exact blend is under wraps, every vintage includes Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, Muscat Canelli, and Viognier. Conundrum White is amazingly versatile, with intriguing tropical notes and natural acidity. Best served chilled.
Sourced from premier California winegrowing regions, Conundrum Red features dark red varietals including Petite Sirah, Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon. It is rich, complex and approachable. With lush flavors of cherries and baking chocolate, this wine has fine tannins that create a silky smoothness. Be daring and drink Conundrum Red chilled to enhance its fruit profile and enjoy it any time of year.
Like the other Conundrum wines that preceded it, our Rosé is all about exploring premier vineyard sites throughout California. This wine is a blend made from grapes grown in cooler, coastal parts of Monterey, as well as the warmer region of Suisun Valley, a little-known but exceptional wine region only 40 minutes from Napa Valley. Fruity but not at all sweet, this wine features a floral character and flavors of wild strawberries – uniquely bright and fresh.
The newest addition to our Conundrum offerings, this Sparkling Rosé is made in a drier style, featuring Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Viognier and Muscat-Canelli. It is both fun and serious, ready-made for celebrations and a perfect pairing with food, making any meal worth celebrating. Delicate, lively and fresh, this blend is produced in the true Méthode Champenoise, with grapes sourced from premier coastal regions of California.
To make an elegant, refreshing sparkling wine, we farm coastal vineyards where cooling breezes temper the sun, creating ideal conditions for white varietals to thrive. Our blend – which includes Pinot Gris, Viognier, Muscat Canelli, Pinot Blanc and a touch of Chardonnay – has a delicate nose, fine bubbles and a delightful lightness. Combining crisp minerality with flavors of freshly cut fruit, it is perfect for celebrations of all kinds. Serve well-chilled.
Never seeing the inside of an oak barrel, Mer Soleil SILVER is a pure, clean expression of Chardonnay. It is fermented and aged in a combination of stainless steel and small concrete tanks imported from Burgundy, France. Fresh from start to finish, this wine features aromas of flower blossoms and crisp pears. It is round and layered on the palate, with vibrant acidity and depth.
